Did
Jesus Really Rise From The Dead? |
Absolutely!
Everyone would probably agree that while He was here on earth, He lived
the most influential life ever lived. After much reflection, one
historian said, "Jesus is, in every respect, unique. Nothing can
compare to Him. All history is incomprehensible without Christ."
Another amazing thing about Jesus is that He made outstanding claims about
Himself. He made bold claims to deity. In effect, He said,
"I Am God!" He pointed to the Old Testament prophecies. Things
written hundreds of years before His coming, were being fulfilled by Himself.
He said He was the only source for forgiveness of sin. The only way of salvation.
The trial of Jesus was incredible. In most trials, people are tried for what they have done. Instead, Jesus was tried for what He was. He was convicted for His claims of supernatural power which were demonstrated and proven. On the very day of His crucifixion, the historical records indicate His enemies acknowledged He claimed to be God in the flesh.
All of this stands alongside the most important data, the bodily resurrection
of Christ. Before His death, He repeatedly staked the truth of all
His claims on the fact that He would rise from the dead.
The records show a series of appearances of Jesus after the resurrection. On one occasion, it involved more than 500 people. The disciples were understandably discourged after the crucifixion, but after seeing Jesus, they took on an attitude of glorious certainty that He was indeed Lord God. The most telling testimony of all is the lives of those early Christians. What caused them to go everywhere telling the message of the risen Christ? As a reward for their wholehearted allegiance to the 'risen Christ,' these early Christians were beaten, stoned, thrown to lions, tortured and crucified....yet they laid down their own lives as ultimate proof of their complete confidence in the truth of their message. Happily, this claim can be investigated and examined by anyone willing to take the time to do so. |
